Guzzlegrams is a chocolate brand that combines delicious chocolate with fun and educational puzzles. The brand is targeted towards kids to make learning more fun, but it is also a brand for people who like sweet treats and tricky challenges!
Guzzlegrams has six different flavored chocolate bars. Each bar comes with a unique puzzle that you break apart and use the chocolate pieces to solve. Guzzlegrams uses word, math, and shape puzzles for different challenges. The chocolate puzzles are fun and educational, and there are varying levels of difficulty so people of all ages can enjoy!
The packaging is made of thick paperboard, so it is sturdy and recyclable. The package easily folds together and can be resealed to hold the chocolate pieces after they are broken apart. When unfolded, the packaging reveals the puzzle instructions and a QR code that provides the answers.
Guzzlegrams also has individually wrapped chocolates. With these single wrapped chocolates, you can spell your name, your favorite words, and even fun messages! The individual chocolates are sold separately or custom ordered if specific numbers and letters are needed. The paper wrapper shows the number or letter that is on the piece of chocolate inside. There is even a fun fact or joke on the inside of each wrapper to match the playful personality of the brand.
Guzzlegrams also has minis, which are the size of chocolate chips in the shape of triangles. Milk chocolate minis are right triangles, and the dark chocolate minis are equilateral triangles. Minis can create different shapes and images, matching the rest of the playful brand. Minis can be eaten right out of the box, used in cookie or pancake recipes, mixed into trail mix, and so much more!
I created advertisements to show the brand personality of Guzzlegrams across different media. The brand's tone of voice is playful, quirky, bold, inquisitive, and witty. The billboard advertisements have quick puzzles to entertain people while they are waiting for a bus or train, while simultaneously giving them a taste of the brand. Guzzlegrams has a playful and interactive social media presence for their younger target audience. Guzzlegrams' advertisements and Instagram communicates the brand personality through the bright colors, letters, numbers, shapes, patterns, and puzzles.
I designed and printed all of the packaging, but I also designed and 3D printed all of the chocolate prototype pieces. To figure out the size of the chocolates and packaging, I created prototypes out of paper see which sizes worked the best. I used Fusion 360 to 3D model and print the chocolate pieces. Once the pieces were printed, I spray painted them to look like chocolate.
I kept an entire sketch book for my ideas, sketches, and notes while creating Guzzlegrams to keep my ideas organized throughout the process. A few pages are shown below.
To start my process, I did extensive research and conducted a survey to see what people look for when purchasing chocolate. I analyzed chocolate brands including Hershey's, Tony's Chocolonely, and Dove. I was inspired by the toys in Kinder Eggs and McDonald's Happy Meals, but I wanted to provide a fun and educational game without a plastic toy. I analyzed educational toys and puzzles like Wordle, Scrabble, Sudoku, Tetris, Dominoes, and Qwirkle.
I used inspiration from letterpress printing and Scrabble pieces for the word and number games. I used geometric patterns as inspiration for the geometry games because they use different shapes. I used bright colors and fun typography for the branding because Guzzlegrams is targeted towards kids and has a playful, quirky personality.
